A widely sought-after musician in Los Angeles, Michael Kallin, DMA, maintains a dynamic career across performance, conducting, arranging, recording, orchestration, education, and music preparation.
No stranger to the concert stage, Dr. Kallin has performed in a wide range of musical styles. As a freelance trumpeter, he has appeared throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia in both orchestral and popular music settings, in addition to serving as a featured soloist and recording artist for film and television.
As a conductor, arranger, and orchestrator, he has worked extensively with many of Los Angeles’ foremost musicians, leading performances and recording sessions with distinguished soloists including Anne Akiko Meyers, Thomas Hooten, and Doug Tornquist, and collaborating with members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Long Beach Symphony, Pacific Symphony, Pasadena Symphony, Hollywood Studio Symphony, and the Synchron Stage Orchestra.
In addition to his performance career, Dr. Kallin is deeply involved in the music preparation for the highest tier projects in film (Sinners, Onward, The Wild Robot, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice), television (Pluribus, The Old Man, The Oscars, The Simpsons), and video games (Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 & 7). With knowledge of multiple digital audio workstations, Finale, Sibelius, and Dorico, he has contributed in nearly every capacity within the music preparation pipeline. His work is distinguished by a rare combination of technical mastery and the artistic insight of a seasoned concert musician. As a recording session supervisor, Dr. Kallin has overseen sessions across Los Angeles, Nashville, Budapest, Austria, and Germany, spanning nearly every major international recording center.
Dr. Kallin is also an active and committed educator, having taught classes at the University of Southern California, the Colburn Community School, the University of California, Irvine, and Concordia University. He currently serves on the trumpet faculty at the Claire Trevor School of the Arts at UCI. A graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara (BM 2014) and the USC Thornton School of Music (MM 2016, DMA 2021), Dr. Kallin is dedicated to sharing his knowledge and experience with the next generation of music makers. His students have earned multiple awards and secured positions in orchestras.
Michael’s primary teachers include Thomas Hooten (LAPO, Principal Trumpet), Boyde Hood (LAPO retired), Jennifer Marotta (The Presidents Own), and Grant Hungerford (Los Angeles Professional).
